When a breaker keeps tripping, won’t reset, or shows signs of damage, there may be a larger electrical issue behind it. JDV Electric can inspect, repair, replace and upgrade circuit breakers for homes throughout the Philadelphia area.
Whether you need a single breaker repaired or an older system upgraded, we’ll assess the breaker, panel and affected circuit to determine what’s actually causing the problem.
Circuit Breaker Repair
For breakers that are damaged, loose, overheating or no longer working properly.
Circuit Breaker Replacement
When a breaker is worn, corroded, damaged or no longer providing reliable protection.
Circuit Breaker Upgrades
Upgrade older breakers or add modern protection when your home’s electrical needs change.
Fuse Box to Circuit Breaker Conversion
Older homes may still rely on fuse boxes. We can evaluate your system and determine whether replacing the fuse box with a modern circuit breaker panel is appropriate.
GFCI & AFCI Protection
We install and service specialized breakers designed to protect against ground faults and arc faults in areas where additional protection is needed.
We’ll look at the condition of your breaker, the circuit it serves and your home’s overall electrical system before recommending a repair or upgrade.
A breaker is designed to shut off power when it detects a dangerous electrical condition. Frequent or unusual trips can mean the breaker, or something connected to it, needs attention.
You may need circuit breaker service if you notice:
Don’t simply keep resetting a breaker. We can inspect the circuit and determine whether the issue is an overloaded circuit, damaged wiring, a faulty breaker or another electrical problem.
A circuit breaker monitors the electrical current flowing through a circuit. When the current becomes too high or an unsafe electrical condition is detected, the breaker trips and cuts off power to help protect the circuit and your home.
Electromagnetic Breakers – Some breakers use an electromagnet that becomes stronger as electrical current increases. When the current gets too high, the magnet triggers the switch and cuts power to the circuit.
Thermal Breakers – Other breakers use a bimetallic strip that bends as it heats up from excess current. When the current becomes too high, the strip bends enough to break the circuit.
GFCI Protection – GFCIs work differently. They compare the current flowing through the hot and neutral wires. If the two don’t match, it can indicate electricity is flowing somewhere it shouldn’t such as through a person so the GFCI quickly shuts off power.
If a breaker trips repeatedly, the goal isn’t simply to reset it. The cause needs to be identified.
Older homes may use fuses instead of modern circuit breakers. A fuse interrupts the circuit by melting when excessive current passes through it, while a circuit breaker switches the circuit off and can be reset after the problem is addressed.
Why Homeowners Upgrade:
Modern Protection – Today’s circuit breakers offer safety features that older fuse systems may not provide.
Easier Resetting – A tripped breaker can be reset without replacing a fuse.
Better Suited to Today’s Needs – Modern electrical systems are designed to handle the appliances, electronics and electrical demands found in today’s homes.
Ready for Future Upgrades – A modern panel can make it easier to add circuits and accommodate changing electrical needs.
If your home still has a fuse box, we can inspect the existing system and explain whether a circuit breaker upgrade makes sense for your home.
Some electrical systems need additional protection beyond a standard circuit breaker.
GFCI Protection – Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters help protect against electrical shock by detecting when electricity is flowing along an unintended path.
AFCI Protection – Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters help protect against dangerous electrical arcing that can occur when wiring is damaged, deteriorating or compromised.
JDV can assess your electrical system and determine whether GFCI or AFCI protection is appropriate for your home and its current electrical setup.
Older homes can have electrical systems that were designed for a very different level of demand. Adding modern appliances, electronics or other high-powered equipment can expose problems that weren’t obvious before.

A repeatedly tripping breaker can indicate an overloaded circuit, faulty appliance, damaged wiring, a failing breaker or another electrical issue. We can inspect the system to determine the cause.
A breaker that won’t reset may be responding to an ongoing electrical problem, such as a short circuit, overload or damaged wiring. It should be inspected rather than repeatedly forced back on.
A breaker may need replacement if it is damaged, worn, corroded, overheating, failing to reset or no longer operating reliably.
Yes. If the rest of the panel is in good condition, an individual faulty breaker may be replaced without replacing the entire panel.
A circuit breaker switches off when it detects excessive current and can generally be reset. A fuse interrupts the circuit by melting and must be replaced.
Modern circuit breakers offer safety and convenience advantages over older fuse systems. If your home still has a fuse box, we can assess whether an upgrade is appropriate.
An Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter is designed to detect dangerous electrical arcing and shut off power to help reduce the risk of electrical fires.
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter detects unintended electrical current paths and shuts off power to help protect against electrical shock.
Yes. A faulty breaker, overloaded circuit or electrical issue can cause appliances to lose power or behave inconsistently. We can determine whether the problem is with the breaker, circuit or appliance.
Not necessarily. Frequent trips can have several causes. We’ll inspect the breaker, circuit and overall electrical capacity before determining whether a repair, breaker replacement or larger panel upgrade is needed.
Our residential electricians deliver prompt services to homes across Delaware County and the surrounding areas.
Whether you need a breaker repaired, replaced or upgraded, we can inspect your electrical system and help you understand what needs to be done.
