Common Electrical Problems Faced By Upper Darby Homeowners

With more than 85,000 residents and housing that is mostly 70 to 100 years old, Upper Darby homes share the same electrical problems block after block.

Electrical Warning Signs Every Upper Darby Homeowner Should Know

Older rowhomes and twins rarely fail without warning. A change in how your lights, outlets or fuses behave is often the first sign something needs attention.

Don’t guess at the cause. A licensed electrician can tell you what is safe, what needs repair now and what can be planned for later.

I contacted JDV to install a 50 amp line for an electric range. The line had to pass behind a 13' set of built in cabinets and wooden countertop that could not be moved. The cabinets were on a cement slab at the back of our row home. There was a slight access on one side of the slab through the basement. It seemed a monumental task to me. Piro (electrician dispatched by JDV) was on time to appointment. He was friendly, well-motivated and professional in all our interactions. I felt clear at every step along the way as to the work being done and why. There was no pressure to upsell on options. Piro stayed in contact with his management team along the way. The work was completed in a timely fashion on the first trip. The work was done well and with a guarantee. The office called to confirm my satisfaction with the work.

In most cases, yes. Fuse boxes limit capacity and make overloading easy. A modern breaker panel adds room for new circuits and safety devices like whole-home surge protection.

Not always. Some homes need a full rewire, while others only need specific circuits replaced. An inspection shows which wiring is still in good shape and which is not.

Only if a ground is available or the circuit is protected properly. Swapping the outlet alone does not add a ground. We can add grounded circuits or install GFCI protection where code allows.

Usually because window AC units share a circuit with other loads. A dedicated circuit for each unit, or a panel upgrade, often solves it.

If you have off-street parking and enough panel capacity, often yes. We check your service size and current load before recommending an installation plan.

Yes. We replace weathered porch and rear-yard wiring, install weather-resistant GFCI outlets and update exterior lighting.

It depends on the type of service and our schedule that day. Book online or call, and our team will give you the next available appointment. Our Lansdowne office borders the township, so travel time is short.

Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 6 PM. If you smell burning or see sparks, turn off the main breaker if it is safe to do so, and call PECO for outages, downed lines or meter problems. Then contact us so a licensed electrician can find and repair the cause.
