As Veterans Day approaches this November 11th, we’re reminded that honoring those who served goes beyond a single day of recognition—it’s a year-round commitment that lives in the heart of our community.

At JDV Electric in Paoli, PA, giving back to the communities we serve isn’t just part of our mission, it’s woven into the fabric of who we are. This month, we had the privilege of supporting a local hero whose quiet dedication ensures that our veterans’ sacrifices are never forgotten.

Meeting a Guardian of Legacy

Our team recently connected with Bill Smeck, a U.S. Veteran and First Vice Commander of Springfield Post 227. Bill embodies the spirit of service that doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. Through his work with the American Legion, he’s taken on a mission that many never see but everyone benefits from: preserving the dignity and visibility of Springfield’s Hometown Hero signs.

These signs aren’t just metal and paint—they’re visual reminders of the sons, daughters, mothers, and fathers who answered the call to serve. They line our streets as testaments to sacrifice, bravery, and the community bonds that make Springfield strong.

The Work Behind the Honor

Each month, Bill walks through Springfield’s neighborhoods, inspecting every Hometown Hero sign. He checks that they’re hanging properly, securely mounted, and displayed with the respect our service members deserve. When weather damage or wear and tear threaten these tributes, Bill takes action.

This dedication moved us deeply. When Bill identified damaged mounting hardware that put several signs at risk, JDV Electric stepped forward to provide the funds needed for replacements. It was a small investment with profound meaning—ensuring these signs continue to hang securely and proudly throughout our community.

Why This Matters

Supporting Bill’s efforts isn’t charity; it’s community stewardship. Every properly displayed Hometown Hero sign serves multiple purposes:

For veterans and their families: It says, “We remember. We honor. Your service matters.”

For younger generations: These signs spark conversations, teaching children about service, sacrifice, and the real people behind our freedoms.

For our community: They remind us that we’re part of something larger than ourselves—a legacy of courage that spans generations.

Our Commitment to Community

JDV Electric’s roots run deep in Springfield. We’re not just a business operating in this community—we’re your neighbors, friends, and fellow community members. We believe in lifting up the people and organizations that make our neighborhoods stronger, safer, and more connected.

Whether it’s supporting veterans’ initiatives, local schools, youth programs, or dedicated volunteers like Bill, we’re proud to stand behind those who stand up for others.

This Veterans Day

As we approach Veterans Day 2025, we encourage everyone to take a moment to notice these Hometown Hero signs in our community. Behind each one is a story of service, a family who sacrificed, and volunteers like Bill who ensure these stories aren’t forgotten.

To Bill Smeck and all veterans—past and present—thank you. Your service protects our freedoms, and your continued dedication strengthens the bonds that make Springfield home.

To our community members: if you know a veteran, reach out this week. A simple “thank you for your service” carries more weight than we often realize. And if you’re interested in supporting local veterans’ organizations like Springfield Post 227, they’re always looking for volunteers and community partners.

At JDV Electric, we’re honored to power the homes and businesses of Springfield, but we’re even more grateful to support the people who make this community shine. Here’s to our hometown heroes—past, present, and future.

Happy Veterans Day from all of us at JDV Electric.
